Why is it called the Raine Study?

The Raine Medical Research Foundation at the University of Western Australia has funded and supported the Study over the past 18 years. Mary Raine was a fascinating woman who played a major part of the history of Perth. Mary Raine made her fortune from buying and selling Perth real estate in the early part of the century. In 1957 Mary Raine bequeathed her property empire to the University for the purpose of funding medical research.  Through her legacy to the University, the Raine Foundation has made a distinguished contribution to medical research. To acknowledge the generous funding from the Raine Foundation that created and supports the ongoing Study, the cohort study is called ‘The Raine Study’.
